Light therapy has been around for a long time. It's now being marketed in a new way that makes it seem like a hot new trend - but it's actually been used for years by dermatologists and in the medical world, with over 3000 studies on the subject. Light emitting diode (LED) Light Therapy is a technology that uses varying wavelengths of light, including red and blue, measured in nanometres. LED Light therapy is a safe and effective treatment that has been shown to improve a variety of skin conditions including acne, scarring and hyper pigmentation.
Blue light therapy has been recognised to provide skincare benefits by improving skin imperfections and revealing clearer, fresher and younger looking skin, particularly for the acne-prone skin types.
Red light therapy is used to beautify the external layer of your skin and improve your skin complexion by helping create a smoother and fuller looking texture.
Unlike other types of light therapy, LEDs do not contain ultraviolet rays. Therefore, they’re safe for regular use. You shouldn’t use LED light therapy if you take certain prescriptions such as Accutane or if you’re experiencing skin rashes. Please always refer to your healthcare professional for advice if you are under treatment before using any light therapy devices. We also strongly recommend you read the device contraindications before use as well.
No, LED light therapy is a gentle, safe and non-invasive method.

Light therapy does not use UV light which is present in natural sunlight and is known to cause damage to skin. Light therapy has been used for more than fifteen years by dermatologists and is a technology recognized by the medical world.
The efficacy of red and infrared light therapy for reducing wrinkles and other signs of aging, such as fine lines, skin roughness, and low collagen density, was researched in the Photomedicine and Laser Surgery journal.
Several studies show a beneficial impact of the LED light therapy on the look of the skin.
As the review in the journal Seminars in Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery notes, Red/infrared Light Therapy may help rejuvenate the skin by increasing collagen production in the skin, which gives the skin its elasticity.
Yes, it is. The American Academy of Dermatology deems this procedure safe, and more and more healthcare professionals start to offer this treatment method to their patients.
There could be a number of reasons.
It could be linked to whether or not you are suffering from photosensitivity. Photosensitivity (sensitisation to light) is a common side effect of various medications and some herbal remedies as well. You should not use light therapy if you suffer from photosensitivity.
LED Light Therapy has not been tested with pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers, so your GP or midwife may recommend you only start your treatment after the breastfeeding period.
They may recommend against Light Therapy if:
- you have a history of porphyria, solar urticaria, chronic actinic dermatitis, photosensitivity.
- they find any suspicious or cancerous lesions.
- you are taking Amiodarone.
- you are taking any photosensitising treatment.
- you are over or near a recent steroid injection.
- you suspect that you have had an adverse/allergic reaction.

Please consult your healthcare provider or Dermatologist before using LUSTRE® ClearSkin LED devices if you have been prescribed any medication for Acne.

No, LUSTRE® ClearSkin Technology delivers therapeutic safe natural light. This is not in the UV spectrum of the natural light wavelength. There have been no reported incidences of UV skin damage.

The LUSTRE® ClearSkin SOLO is the highly advanced 3rd generation device of Lustre Skin Ltd for the treatment of mild to moderate acne. It is a Certified (Class IIa) medical grade Blue light Technology device developed by scientific experts from Cambridge and Ninewells NHS Hospital & Medical School in Scotland.
Due to its clinically proven safe, natural and highly effective properties, Blue Light Therapy has been used to treat acne drug-free and non-invasively for almost 40 years. LUSTRE® ClearSkin has revolutionised the technology previously used, by leading dermatologists, to make it portable and wearable.
The LUSTRE® ClearSkin SOLO contains one blue light therapy device and is ideal for treating occasional spots and breakouts, on the face as well as on the body.
The LUSTRE® ClearSkin technology is safe to use for people with ocular photo-sensitivity, as there is no risk of eye injury or otherwise visual discomfort when wearing this light therapy device on the skin. The device should only be switched on AFTER it has been affixed to the treatment area of skin.
DO NOT look directly at the LED screen when it is switched on.
DO NOT place LUSTRE® ClearSkin over the eyes, or where the light will shine into the eyes during treatment.
A rare pigment darkening can occur immediately after the treatment. It is caused by visible wavelengths i.e. blue light, is temporary and completely harmless. It is commonly seen in darker skin types and usually fades in 48 hours. It is thought to be due to reversible oxidation of existing melanin and is not new melanin (which would last much longer). The bacteria continue to be killed, and the temporary discolouration is nothing to be concerned about.
Yes – you can use your LUSTRE® ClearSkin device on any part of the body affected by acne.
Yes. LUSTRE® ClearSkin is suitable for all skin types. However, a small number of people have a skin type* which is more sensitive to the normal level of adhesion of the LUSTRESTRIPS.
The best way to check whether your skin is more sensitive is to carry out a short test before your first treatment:
- Attach a LUSTRESTRIP to a LUSTRE® ClearSkin device and place on your inner forearm, just below the elbow. The LUSTRE® ClearSkin treatment head should be switched on and left in place for at least 20 minutes before being removed carefully by lifting from one edge.
If there is any discomfort, then we recommend applying a very small amount of non-comedogenic moisturising cream to the skin before attaching LUSTRESTRIP next time and this will normally solve the problem. Because of the strength of the adhesive, with 20 mins sessions, temporary marks can occur. These marks are only temporary and will disappear progressively and naturally.
*Fitzpatrick Skin Types V and VI can use the device safely, however we strongly recommend to assess your skin carefully after each session, there is an increased risk of pigmentation on those skin types.

The LUSTRE® ClearSkin Technology is a natural therapy and there are no known side effects. However, in some instance, people might be prone to a temporary skin hyperpigmentation. Darker skin types are more prone to hyperpigmentation and occasionally can get hyperpigmentation with this device but it settles spontaneously. The hyperpigmentation is thought to be due to oxidation of existing melanin and not new melanin production. It generally settles within 48 hours.
If in doubt about your skin’s compatibility with Blue Light Therapy, we recommend you consult your healthcare provider or Dermatologist when considering buying LUSTRE® ClearSkin.
There is one recommended method for reducing the adhesion of the strips. A small amount of non-comedogenic moisturising cream should be applied directly to the skin immediately before application of the adhesive strips. The exact amount of cream required is dependent upon the need to reduce the adhesion. In ALL cases the white cream should NOT be visible on the skin when the strip is applied to the skin. If cream is visible then the light will not be able to reach the skin and perform an effective treatment.
After each treatment session the LUSTRE® adhesive strip should be removed and discarded. The LUSTRE® ClearSkin device should be cleaned using a moist cloth or cleansing wipe, a moist alcohol swab may also be used. Liquid of any description should not be allowed to enter the LUSTRE® ClearSkin device. Do not use or attach your LUSTRE® ClearSkin device to the main power supply if it has ever been exposed to liquid at any time as it is electrical equipment.
Please consult your healthcare provider or Dermatologist before using LUSTRE® ClearSkin if you have been prescribed any medication for Acne.

It comes with a compatible iOS/Android app that allows you to fully customize, track and plan your sessions for tailored results according to your needs.
The LUSTRE® ClearSkin Renew Pro Facewear Mask uses different light wavelengths, BLUE 415nm, RED 630nm and Infrared 830nm to provide proven skin care benefits in a non-invasive, chemical-free way.
Blue light (415nm)
Known for its effectiveness in killing acne-causing bacteria under the skin, blue light reaches where creams & lotions don't - and heals skin from within. Exposure to blue light spectrum triggers a photodynamic response with p.Acnes bacteria, which in turn effectively destroys them using your body’s own defence mechanism. This ultimately prevents bacteria ever reaching the surface of the skin, leading to a reduction in skin inflammation the natural way. The light’s ability to help balance sebum production also works for acne prevention.
Red light (630nm)
Red light therapy used in skincare contributes to tissue repair and has calming effects on damaged or sensitive skin. It promotes faster healing and supports smoother, younger-looking skin.
Infrared light (830nm)
This is the most deeply absorbed wavelength from all the other colours in the spectrum.
Infrared light used in skin treatment focuses on rejuvenation. In other words, it promotes the renewal of skin cells through the stimulation of collagen. Because it penetrates right into the skin, it is more effective in boosting its condition and repairing at the source, resulting in a plumper, more radiant complexion.
No pain should be felt whilst using LUSTRE® ClearSkin RENEW Pro Facewear. If you experience any discomfort, please stop using the mask and contact your healthcare practitioner.
The LUSTRE® ClearSkin Renew Pro Facewear is suitable for users with a Skin Type of I – VI on the Fitzpatrick skin type scale.
